How to Get Your Motorcycle Driving License in Poland (Step by Step Guide)
If you’ve ever dreamed of riding through Poland on two wheels — from city streets to scenic mountain roads — you’ll need a proper motorcycle driving license. The process can feel complicated at first, especially if you’re new to Poland, but once you know the steps, it’s actually straightforward.
Here’s a complete guide on how to get your motorcycle license in Poland, from requirements to exams and costs.
Types of Motorcycle Licenses in Poland
Poland issues different categories of motorcycle licenses depending on age and engine size:
AM (age 14+) → mopeds and scooters up to 50cc.
A1 (age 16+) → motorcycles up to 125cc, max 11 kW.
A2 (age 18+) → motorcycles up to 35 kW (a common option for beginners).
A (age 24+, or 20 with 2 years of A2) → unlimited motorcycles.
Most adults go straight for A2 (if under 24) or A (if over 24 and want full access).
Step 1: Medical Checkup
Before anything else, you’ll need a medical certificate stating you’re fit to ride a motorcycle. This can be done at any authorized doctor’s office.
Cost: around 200 PLN
They’ll check eyesight, reflexes, and overall health.
Step 2: Create a PKK Number
The PKK (Profil Kandydata na Kierowcę — Candidate Driver Profile) is like your digital ID for driving courses and exams. Without it, you can’t register for lessons or tests.
To get your PKK, go to your local Starostwo Powiatowe (County Office / City Hall) with:
Medical certificate
Passport or residence card + PESEL number
Photo (same style as for an ID)
You’ll receive your PKK number for free.
Step 3: Enroll in a Driving School (OSK)
With your PKK, you can sign up for a certified driving school (Ośrodek Szkolenia Kierowców).
The A / A2 course usually includes:
30 hours of theory (classroom or online)
20 hours of practical riding (on training grounds + real roads)
Cost: around 3600 PLN depending on the city.
Step 4: Theory
Before you ride, you’ll need to pass the theory exam at your local WORD (Wojewódzki Ośrodek Ruchu Drogowego) testing center.
The test includes 32 multiple-choice questions on traffic laws, signs, and safety.
You need at least 68/74 points to pass.
Good news: the exam can also be taken in English.
Cost: 50 PLN.
Booking your exam:
You can book your exam online through the official InfoCar website/app: https://info-car.pl/new/
Fill in your background information.
Select your preferred exam center, date, and time.
Pay online via bank transfer or BLIK.
Alternatively, you can book in person at your local exam center.
In Kraków, motorcycle theory exams (Category A) are currently available only at the Nowa Huta exam center.
How to prepare:
There are around 1,600 possible theory questions for Category A, so thorough preparation is key. Many apps and websites can help, but I personally recommend Prawo-Jazdy-360: https://en.prawo-jazdy-360.pl/.
The platform is user-friendly, especially if you need to translate from Polish to English.
To access all questions, subscription options are:
24 PLN for 5 days
50 PLN for 6 months
I went for the 3-month option, since I was preparing for both Category A and B exams — plenty of time to study comfortably.
Mini Study Tips:
Short daily sessions – study 15–30 minutes every day instead of cramming.
Review explanations – don’t just memorize answers; understand why each one is correct.
Simulate exam conditions – use the app in timed mode to practice under pressure.
Focus on tricky questions – pay extra attention to road signs, priority rules, and safety regulations.
Track your progress – revisit questions you get wrong until you consistently answer them correctly.
Step 5: Practical Exam
Once you pass theory, it’s time for the practical test. This includes:
Training yard tasks: slalom, figure-8, emergency braking, balance ride.
Road test: riding in traffic with an examiner following on another motorcycle.
Duration: 40–50 minutes
Cost: 200 PLN
You’ll need your own helmet, gloves, jacket, and boots (though some schools lend them).
Step 6: Get Your License
If you pass both exams 🎉, your results go automatically into the system. Within 2–3 weeks, you can pick up your motorcycle license at your local office.
Fee: 100 PLN for the license card.

Tips for Success
Book early — exam slots at WORD fill up quickly.
Practice low-speed control — most people fail on slalom and figure-8.
Gear matters — good boots and gloves make a difference.
Stay calm on the road test — follow signs, not just the examiner’s car.
Consider A2 first if younger — it’s easier to upgrade later.

Getting your motorcycle driving license in Poland takes some time and money, but the reward is worth it: the freedom to ride wherever you want, from Poland’s Baltic coast to the Tatra mountains.
